www.nevadawolfpack.com

RENO, Nev.—The Reno Aces and the University of Nevada baseball team will renew their annual exhibition contest at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3 at Aces Ballpark, with proceeds once again benefiting the Nevada Dugout Club, the entities jointly announced today.

The 2012 exhibition will mark the third-straight exhibition contest between Reno’s Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the NCAA Division I Wolf Pack. The Aces defeated Nevada 9-3 last season, on the heels of an 11-1 victory in the inaugural game in 2010.

In each of the last two seasons, the Aces have made a $15,000 donation to the University of Nevada Dugout Club, an organization that serves as the main fundraising body of the University of Nevada baseball team.

The game will serve as the final tune-up for the Aces before opening the 2012 season on April 5, while Nevada’s student-athletes will have the opportunity to compete against some of professional baseball’s top prospects at the Triple-A level.

Once again this season, the game will be played in an exhibition format, with Aces pitchers and catchers playing for both squads. All players will use wood bats, and the contest will last between seven and nine innings, depending on the status of the Aces pitching staff. Utilizing the traditional Minor League Spring Training format, pitchers will be placed on a pitch count, and should a pitcher reach his limit, the game will immediately proceed to the next half inning.

Tickets for the game are $14 for adults, $10 for college students and $7 for children 12 and younger and seniors 62 and older. Aces season-ticket holders will have the chance to purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $10, and will be eligible for an exclusive presale opportunity. Tickets may be purchased online at www.RenoAces.com beginning Monday, March 20 and at the Reno Aces Ticket Office on Saturday, March 10.

The Aces begin their defense of the Pacific North Division Championship on Thursday, April 5 at Aces Ballpark. All full and partial Aces season tickets are available now by calling (775) 334-4700. For up-to-date news and notes throughout the offseason, visit www.RenoAces.com, follow the club on Twitter (@aceball) or like the team on Facebook.

I didn’t come to New York to be a star, I brought my star with me.

I don’t mind getting beaten, but I hate to lose.

I have a hard time believing athletes are overpriced. If an owner is losing money, give it up. It’s a business. I have trouble figuring out why owners would stay in if they’re losing money.

I was reminded that when we lose and I strike out, a billion people in China don’t care.

I’d like to be able to light the fire a little bit.

I’m human and I’ve played my butt off for ten years. I’m not a loafer, I’m not a jerk, I’m a baseball player.

In the building I live in on Park Avenue there are ten people who could buy the Yankees, but none of them could hit the ball out of Yankee Stadium.

October, that’s when they pay off for playing ball.

Please God, let me hit one. I’ll tell everybody you did it.

The greatest manager has a knack for making ballplayers think they are better than they think they are.

The only reason I don’t like playing in the World Series is I can’t watch myself play.

The only way I’m going to win a Gold Glove is with a can of spray paint.

As a Reno/Sparks real estate professional, I encourage all questions and comments on the Reno/Sparks real estate market or any of the articles posted in this blog. Please feel free to use my back door to the MLS and search house available in the Reno/Sparks and all Northwest Nevada neighborhoods. I can be reached by email @ chance at ballard-company.com or http://www.myspace.com/chancegates

Today picks is from a heated rivalry Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees. The Yankees are 12-3 at home and Phil Hughes is pitching some lights out baseball. He is averaging a strikeout an inning and has only had 14 walks. The Boston Red Sox are 7-8 on the road and sending Daisuke Matsuzaka to the mound. Matsuzaka has dominating strkeout to walk ratio in his last start he struckout 9 with no walks.

I like the under in this game.

Roy Oswalt has been pitching really well however the Huston Astros have only scored 5 runs in his last 4 losses. The Astros are only averaging 2.7 runs per game against right handed pitching. The San Diego Padres have won 10 of the last 15 and 5 of the last 6. I realize that the Padres are getting a great line, bu that seems to easy. This reminds me of when Radke pitched for the Twins. So take the Under.

Off to a rough start so I’ll take a couple of favorites today. I like the Colorado Rockies over the Washington Nationals. Nationals are playing some really good baseball, but usually have an off day on the first game of a road trip. Plus the Rockies have won 22 of the last 28 games against the Nationals.

The other game I really like is the San Francisco Giants against the San Diego Padres. San Diego is playing well but Cain is on the mound for the Giants and getting a great line. Whenever you can get one of the great pitcher with a good line, it is worth the shot.

Please remember these picks are for entertainment purposes.

Early season baseball lines are extremely volatile and subject to overreaction based on short term events. That definitely appears to be the case here. The Cubs are a -150 favorite, and that’s based almost exclusively on the performance of the respective starters in their first game of the season. Doug Davis allowed 4 runs in 4 innings of work and didn’t factor in the decision as Milwaukee beat Colorado, while Ryan Dempster pitched 6 innings of 3 hit baseball allowing 1 earned run in a 3-2 loss to Atlanta where he wasn’t involved in the decision. Please regard all picks for entertainment purposes.

Major League Baseball season is upon us and I know the Sports Books are busy. The way I look at betting baseball is real similar to the way I look at betting football. In football anybody who follows my picks will know “I like the points”. In baseball it is pretty much the same except I like the positive line in most cases. I also like certain situations, one of my favorite is going against an average pitcher after he had a great game in his last start. Thinking he cannot do it again.

One of the times I will choose a negative line is when an above average pitcher is playing for a below average team. A great example of this is when Curt Schilling use to play for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Betting Overs/Unders

I don’t really do this much anymore however when I worked in the casino, placing a bet almost everyday, I would take the total score going over if:

1). The total score line was 10 or higher and the line was negative.

2). I never heard of the two pitchers.

My thought was if I have never heard of them, they cannot be a start. I lost count on the number of times I was proven wrong.

Please remember betting is suppose to be for entertainment reasons only! Please don’t bet with money you cannot afford to lose.

As a Reno – Sparks real estate consultant I encourage all questions and comments on the Reno – Sparks real estate or any of the article I post.

Guessing what the pitcher is going to throw is eighty percent of being a successful hitter. The other twenty percent is just execution.

I don’t feel right unless I have a sport to play or at least a way to work up a sweat.
Hank Aaron

I don’t see pitches down the middle anymore – not even in batting practice.
Hank Aaron

I looked for the same pitch my whole career, a breaking ball. All of the time. I never worried about the fastball. They couldn’t throw it past me, none of them.
Hank Aaron

I never doubted my ability, but when you hear all your life you’re inferior, it makes you wonder if the other guys have something you’ve never seen before. If they do, I’m still looking for it.
Hank Aaron

I’m hoping someday that some kid, black or white, will hit more home runs than myself. Whoever it is, I’d be pulling for him.
Hank Aaron

It took me seventeen years to get three thousand hits in baseball. I did it in one afternoon on the golf course.
Hank Aaron

My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging.
Hank Aaron

The pitcher has got only a ball. I’ve got a bat. So the percentage in weapons is in my favor and I let the fellow with the ball do the fretting.
Hank Aaron

The triple is the most exciting play in baseball. Home runs win a lot of games, but I never understood why fans are so obsessed with them.
Hank Aaron

You can only milk a cow so long, then you’re left holding the pail.
